ETP Note: Unfortunately Itus Networks has closed shop. If you have a Itus device, it uses open source software on it so you should be able to continue on via updates directly from the providers. More information in the Itus Owners Forum.

The ITUS Networks Shield (formerly iGuardian) was an innovative & successful crowdfunded security product designed for home networks. Shield detects threats based on Suricata, an open source network intrusion prevention system (NIPS) and network intrusion detection system (NIDS) much like Snort. Suricata is maintained by Emerging Threats, a Proofpoint company. The Shield also incorporates antivirus scanning of all traffic in and out of your network. ITUS Networks has managed to pack this usually corporate level security in a small simple device for any user who wants the extra layer of protection for their own network. This level of security is unmatched by all store bought home routers or other inline off the shelf security devices. As we covered before, you can make your own gateway/router with SNORT as a NIPS gateway or router, but this requires hardware of your own and some basic knowledge of networking. With Shield, it is almost a simple plug and play device with free lifetime security and signature updates.

Shield blocks a wide range of threats, including viruses, scams, malicious websites, java, browser, and file exploits, drive-by-downloads, watering-hole attacks, botnets, data-theft, remote access Trojans and key-loggers.  Shield can also be used to help identify and neutralize infected devices that may already be on your network. ~ITUS Networks

The Shield can be implemented on your network as a Router, Bridge or in Gateway mode simply with a moving a switch. View the Shield GUI user interface. The password is: itus
